Good quality paint brushes improve with its use, as the tips become rounded and loose bristles fall off. It is highly recommended that a painter uses new brushes on undercoats and save their best-matured brushes for topcoats.
Cheap brushes usually contain far less bristles for a certain width. These cheap brushes are often not secured properly on the brush thus causing the majority of the bristles to fall off at fast pace. It is highly advised that brushes are kept and utilized for less important work such as applying wood preservatives to rough timber. Cheap brushes are also useful for removing dust after sanding down a surface.
While selecting your paint brushes, it’s important to avoid synthetic fibre brushes for painting and opt to use brushes made of Chinese hog bristles that split naturally to give good paint holding.
For Normal jobs, the 13mm, 25mm, and 50mm brushes should work just fine. Use 100mm to 150mm brushes for walls and ceilings. For window frames, an angled 20mm cutting-in brush will give the desired direct effect- the angled tip helps to get close to the glass without getting the paint on it. A crevice or radiator brush has bristles at right angles. It is good for painting awkward and hard to reach places such as behind metal fireplaces and pipes.
Using the right brush for the right job will reduce running and dripping thus ensuring wastage of paint at the bare minimum while giving an admirable finish.
